Joining together to see
all things new in Christ

At City Church we seek to join together to see all things new in Christ. Being together means we share a common set of beliefs and a common way of life.

Our Statement of Beliefs expresses the essential beliefs that we hold together at City Church. It is not a comprehensive statement on all that Christians believe.

STATEMENT OF BELIEFS

We believe that God eternally exists in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, that these are without division of nature, essence, or being, and are equal in every divine perfection. Each executes distinct but harmonious roles in the work of creation, providence and redemption.

We believe the Father is All-Sovereign, the maker of things visible and invisible, perfectly foreknows all that shall come to pass, and concerns himself mercifully in the affairs of humanity.

We believe the Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, was born of the Virgin Mary, is fully God and fully man, lived a sinless life, was crucified, buried, and on the third day rose from the dead.

We believe the Spirit, Giver of Life, convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment and renews, sanctifies, and empowers all who believe in Jesus Christ.

We believe women and men, although created in God’s image free from sin, willfully sinned against God and experienced separation from God; as a consequence, all humans are born with a nature corrupt and opposed to God and are under condemnation.

We believe the cancellation of sins, resurrection of the flesh, and life everlasting is ours through trusting in the life of Christ alone for righteousness, the death of Christ alone for atonement, and the resurrection of Christ alone for hope.

We believe faith and repentance are necessary for salvation. Repentance occurs when a person detests and turns away from sin and seeks to walk before God in a manner pleasing to Him. Faith is resting in Christ alone for one’s justification, atonement, and eternal life.

We believe the Church is the living spiritual body of which Jesus is the head and all regenerated persons are members and is visibly manifested in local churches consisting of baptized believers in Jesus Christ.

We believe the two sacraments instituted by Christ and continued by the church are baptism and communion. Baptism is the public declaration of allegiance to Christ and his church and is obligatory upon every believer after regeneration and is a sign and seal of their fellowship with the death and resurrection of Christ and of forgiveness of sins. Communion commemorates the broken body and shed blood in the death of Christ and serves as confirmation of the faith of believers, spiritual nourishment and a bond, pledge and renewal of their communion with Christ and each other.

We believe in the personal and visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ to earth in order to establish his kingdom, which has no end. We believe in the resurrection of the body, the final judgment of the living and the dead, the eternal joy of the righteous, and the suffering of the wicked.

We believe God has made known these things, as an overflow of His love and goodness, in the Scriptures, consisting of the Old and New Testaments. Because the Scriptures are God’s Word it is the only sufficient, certain and authoritative rule of all saving knowledge, faith and obedience.
